A U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Research Service (ARS) scientist in Pennsylvania has developed a sanitizing wash that could reduce the number of foodborne illnesses caused each year by E. coli, Salmonella and Listeria from fresh-cut produce.

Dike Ukuku, a food technologist at the ARS Food Safety and Intervention Technologies Research Unit in Wyndmoor, Pa., has developed a solution that works better than water, chlorinated water, or hydrogen peroxide at ridding surface bacteria from produce. The solution rids cantaloupes, honeydew melons, and other produce of bacteria that migrate on to cut pieces.

As you get older, you may notice your knees are less forgiving when it comes to jaunting up and down the stairs. A study supported in part by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Agricultural Research Service (ARS) suggests that if you're not getting adequate vitamin D in your diet, you may be at increased risk of developing the painful condition known as "osteoarthritis" in your knees.

The animal nutrition division of DuPont Industrial Biosciences will host a Phytase 101 workshop just prior to the ESPN 2015 opening ceremony on Monday 24 August, the aim of which is to share the latest scientific findings on phytate - and other factors that should influence phytase choice and dose.

The Nuscience Group announces the official opening of its new plant in Tianjin, China, on 26 May 2015. The new plant – with a capacity of 10,000 metric Ton per month – replaces the old plant Nuscience acquired in 2000 in Central TEDA. Representing an investment of close to 100 million CNY or 14.8 million euros, the new Tianjin plant has the latest state of the art technology and equipment.

Water hardness can influence the development of columnaris disease in catfish, according to a study by U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) scientists.

Agricultural Research Service (ARS) scientists found a difference in disease development in fish exposed to hard and soft water containing the bacterial pathogen Flavobacterium columnare, which causes columnaris disease
