U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) scientists are taking their studies to the field to gauge the survival rate of a new line of rainbow trout that is resistant to bacterial cold-water disease.

Two complete new layer houses have been built in Piegaro, Italy. Ferdinandi, already owner of  broiler farms and former purchaser of hatching eggs now owns these two new houses.

Using poultry litter as fertilizer is a welcome trend in many southern states because that is where most of the U.S. broiler chickens are produced. The litter's nitrogen content helps boost crop yields, and also helps reduce farmers' expenses for commercial fertilizers. But a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) agronomist has found that many farmers in Mississippi may be applying litter at the wrong time of year.

A recent study conducted by U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS) scientists indicated that just three compounds in beef manure were responsible for generating over two-thirds of detectable odors.

SPACE 2014, held from September 16 to 19 at the Rennes Exhibition Center, surpassed the records set in 2013:  1,427 exhibitors (1,403 in 2013), including 457 international exhibitors from 36 countries and 114,718 visitors (+0.1%), including 1,350 international visitors (+10%) from 118 countries (110 in 2013). The net exhibition area of over 68,000 m² of stands represented 500 m² more than last year.

Cobb held its Asia-Pacific regional conference in Singapore attended by the owners and top executives from 36 distributors in 15 countries across the region.

Recent developments clarifying the mechanisms by which xylanase feed enzymes produce a performance response in both corn- and wheat-based diets have highlighted the vital importance of specific enzyme characteristics.

One reason why some cows cannot get pregnant may be because they have male (Y) chromosome fragments in their DNA, according to a U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) study.
Reproductive efficiency is the most economically important trait in cow-calf production. When a cow does not produce a calf, the producer does not make a profit, but still has to pay for feed, labor and other expenses.
